Bring Your Own 'x'

Bring Your Own 'x' (BYOx) means exactly that: students bring their own digital devices to school, for the purposes of learning. So instead of using school-owned ICT, students use their own.

The BYOx concept recognises that students and their parents and caregivers would like to use the same digital devices at school and at home.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to implementing a BYOx program. Some schools may give all their students the opportunity to bring their own devices. Others may limit the program to certain year levels.

Our BYOx program allows students to bring either a Mac or Windows device. Please refer the device specifications to check whether your device is compatible.

Purchasing Your BYO Device

There are a number of options available for parents to choose from.

  1. Parents can purchase from your preferred supplier. All warranty and service issues will be the parents’ responsibility. Beerwah State High School has no involvement in these arrangements.
  2. Parents can purchase from one of our supplier portals.
We have negotiated supplier portals with BES, The School Locker and JB Hi-Fi. The portals will allow for online purchasing, which include 3 year onsite warranty repairs at Beerwah State High School. Parents will need to follow the vendor process to log a warranty claim.
Links to the portals and information regarding pricing  are included in the links.

  3. Renting a device is a great option. The device, warranty repairs and insurance are all bundled into an affordable weekly payment.

Mandatory conditions before accessing the school network
Students will be provided with the opportunity to connect to the school Wi-Fi network when the following conditions have been met:

1.      Payment of School Resource Levy (Payment Plan available)
2.    Payment of the BYOx Annual Fee ($20 per student)
3.    Completion of the BYOx Connectivity Request Form & ICT Responsible Use Agreement
4.    Approved device that meet the school’s specifications

Roll out schedule
2017 we will be recommending students join the BYOx program. We will be maintaining some computer labs and decreasing our aging laptop fleet to ensure students speed to complete tasks is efficient.

Theft, Security & Damage

Devices are the sole responsibility of the student. The school will have lockers available for hire however accepts no responsibility for the security or safety of the device.

Teachers and other staff will not store or hold on to devices.

We advise parents to consider purchasing Accidental Damage Protection (ADP) for the device.

Protection

Don’t forget to protect your investment. Ensure you purchase a protection case for your laptop or tablet device.

Students are often not very careful when they are packing their bags. Often shoving the device in their bags can damage keys or crack the screen.

It is recommended both laptops and tablets are stored in a protective case when not in use.
