Welcome!

Welcome to the inaugural SURGE High School Rock Spectacular. A school community “Battle of the Bands" style event.

This project was birthed out of a concern about the negative impact of Covid-19 and mental health in general for young people on the Sunshine Coast.

We believe that young people have a lot of great things to say, awesome energy, and fresh ideas. “SURGE High School Rock Spectacular" is an opportunity for us to see our local young people step up and rock out for their mates, for their schools and their communities.

This is the first time we have run this event and we are thrilled to have five fantastic schools on board: Beerwah State High School, Burnside State High School, Caloundra State High School, Maleny State High School and Meridan State College.

It is our hope that everyone involved in this unique opportunity will encourage each other and connect throughout the duration of this event.

The Artwork

The story behind the artwork…

A number of young people were asked to give feedback on a selection of various names that had been drafted for this new event. The one that was chosen was 'Surge', with its strong language of energy, movement and power.

Graphic designer Jay explains the story behind the artwork for this event: “The mountains are guitar picks with surging music waves, the moon is a vinyl record and the rips and waves are guitar strings with an electric guitar submerged under the water…. in essence the 'surge'."
