Dance
Beerwah State High School offers an array of extensive extra-curricular programs for students in years 7-12. These programs aim to improve a student's performance and choreographic skills whilst fostering esprit do corps in a safe and supportive environment. Each of these programs further develops their 21st century skills to succeed in any chosen career e.g. critical and creative thinker, innovator, effective communicator and collaborator. If students are interested in broadening these skills and/or wanting to grow as an artist, then they must audition to be considered for one of these programs:
Beerwah Dance Company
Elite program designed to challenge and extend students' performance and choreographic skills
Students compete at numerous Eisteddfods and competitions in South East Queensland
Previous dance experience is recommended
Styles covered: Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Tap, Jazz, Hip-Hop
Rehearse weekly: four mornings starting at 7:30am, three lunch times and some weekends
Learn from industry professionals for competitions and workshops
Perform at school and community events
Beerwah Dance Team
Program designed to extend students' choreographic skills and performance ability within a group context
Students perform at school and community events
Work with local choreographers
Styles covered: Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop
Rehearse weekly: two afternoons 3-4:30pm
Year 7 Dance Troupe
Program designed to provide year 7 students with the opportunity to be involved in The Arts in their first year at BSHS
Styles covered: Contemporary and/or Jazz
Rehearse weekly: Thursday lunch time
Perform at school events e.g. Dance Night
Transition program for students interested in the Dance Extension Program
It is important to know that for any student to participate in one of these programs, students must have paid their SRS fees and Subject Levies in full, or have set up a Payment Plan through Finance.
