Connected at Beerwah: BYOX and Laptop Hire at Beerwah SHS

Beerwah State High School is a BYOx school and it is an expectation that all students across year 7 to 12 bring their own device for use at school everyday. If a student doesn't have access to a privately owned device, we offer two options for affordable Laptop Hire.

"Take Home Hire" enables students to hire a school owned laptop for educational use at school and at home as a "take home hire" device. To apply for a take home device, complete the Take Home Hire Laptop Application Form and send it to itsupport@beerwahshs.eq.edu.au for processing.

We also have the option of a "collect-n-go" Day Hire Device, with the same device loaned and returned to our Resource Centre each day. To apply for a Day Hire Device, complete the Day Hire Laptop Application Form and send it to itsupport@beerwahshs.eq.edu.au for processing.

The costings for these options are summarised below and more detail is provided in our Laptop Hire Charter Document. Laptops will be issued to students based on the availability of a device (confirmed as part of the application process).

If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact our Head of Department Digital Technologies to discuss how we can work with you to ensure that your child is connected at Beerwah.

Why support a BYOx program?

At Beerwah SHS, we recognise the role that purposeful use of technology and digital tools to support student learning plays in the 21st Century classroom. We use a range of platforms including Microsoft 365, OneDrive, SharePoint, QLearn and Education Perfect to enrich the learning experience for our students. Teachers are planning curriculum with the expectation that the students in their classroom will have access to a device.

At our school we focus on opportunities for students to investigate, create, exchange, manage and operate digital devices to meet the demands of curriculum. We support our students in practising digital safety and well-being.

Device Selection

To ensure the best experience for students participating in the BYOx program, we have decided on a set of minimum device specifications to ensure that the device is suitable for student learning. Before acquiring a laptop to use at school please consider the specifications as detailed in our Specifications Letter.

In order to connect your student's device to our network and install necessary software they must have administrator access on the device.

Devices Not Accepted at School

  • Google Chromebook and all other Linux devices are not supported
  • Android devices are not compatible with our system
  • Windows 10 S is not compatible with our system
  • iPad minis are not supported
  • iPads, while officially supported, are not recommended

Please contact the Beerwah SHS IT Department at itsupport@beerwahshs.eq.edu.au with any questions.

We look forward to supporting your child to be connected with a device for learning everyday at Beerwah State High School.
